For N.Y., security is King

When Rep. Pete King was named chairman of a key Homeland Security subcommittee earlier this month, he turned to Bernard Kerik, despite Kerik's fall from grace.
"He was there on 9/11 and he knows exactly where we were deficient," the Long Island Republican told us of President Bush's erstwhile Homeland Security nominee.
The legislator is the only New Yorker on the committee, which will focus on the anti-terror preparedness of first responders.
"Every intelligence analysis I've seen shows that terrorists have New York on top of their target lists," King said. "My main focus will be to come up with a formula where the areas that need money the most, get it."
What about clashes between firefighters and cops?
"That's got to be resolved," said King, who will be holding hearings in lower Manhattan in April. Expect Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, his FDNY counterpart, Nicholas Scoppetta, and others to testify.
